It was raining a couple of minutes ago. I'm still too lazy to buy food, despite being extremely hungry. I can't describe how much of an addict I've become these past weeks. I'm glued on my laptop for more than 7 hours a day! I could have done tons of more important things in that amount of time. But, yeah, I am that shallow and stupid. I waste time voting for celebrities on Perezzies 2008. I didn't even know at first what Perezzies are until I realized that the blogger's name is PEREZ Hilton.
Geez. I just realized that the more I let myself read senseless stuff, the dumber I become. I'm not sure if I read this in an e-mail, but George Carlin, a brilliant American stand-up comedian and actor who died last June, said:
"Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. " An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's." It really kinda stuck to me and I got worried because right now, I'm having this problem about not remembering things, like past events. My friends would go like, "Naalala mo yung time na blahblahblah.." and I'd give them a confused look because I definitely don't remember. Well, I didn't give them the look for saying "blablahblah" because they didn't actually say it. I told you I forget about stuff so I replaced the rest of the sentence with blahs. Anywaaaaay, that situation happened more than five times! And when I read that quote from Mr. Carlin, I started blaming my lack of willingness to read my Finance books and the newspapers. In high school, I used to do a lot of Math problems, because that was my favorite subject ever and because I was one of the reps for the MTAP Math Challenge (?)---it's a math quiz bee but I forgot what the acronym stands for (See? Told yah.)--- so I really needed to practice and solve, solve, solve! I kept my brain busy that time. I have no idea what happened to me now.
Memories are very important for me, for everybody. Losing them would be devastating. I realized that my diaries and blogs don't just serve as a therapy or an emotional outlet. They make me remember. I've seen The Notebook so many times and right now, I'm giving up hope that there will be a Noah for me. So if I do get Alzheimer's, that would suck a lot! Hahaha. I'm kidding. Okay, seriously though. I really have to stop wasting my time on the internet. A few minutes or an hour a day on the computer will do. I have to put a sticker on my laptop that would say, "FOR HOME WORK AND BLOGGING PURPOSES ONLY!!" Hahaha.
Here's a short list of How To Prevent Getting Alzheimer's Disease While You're Young, Hip, Smart and Fabulous:
1. Get hooked on crossword puzzles and Sudoku. I heard they're a great way to exercise the brain so I'll definitely take those into consideration. 2. Put your love for TV in good use. Watch documentary shows (Discovery Channel, History Channel), and the news (TV Patrol, NBC, CNN). Lesser on MTV, Wild Boyz, Gossip Girl, TMZ. 3. Relive your MTAP preparation days. Spend your free time solving for bond prices, rates of return, current ratios, working capitals and other bunch of Finance-related craps, uh, I meant, problems. Finance-related problems. :P 4. Get busy. Enroll in cooking classes, take Photoshop lessons, learn how to drive SAFELY!! Our college dean, Dr. Helena Cabrera, always says that we have to invest in "continuous learning". We may think we know a lot already but as more things are being discovered and as more issues are being talked about, we have to be updated.
I can't think of anything anymore. My brain's all worn out. Maybe I should add "Make a List" on the list, because it sure did put my mind to work. Hahaha.
